Lionel Messi signs contract with Inter Miami after having record-breaking career playing for FC Barcelona
Lionel Messi, the famous soccer player for Inter Miami CF and Argentina, is the special face for Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, called “Icon of the Seas.”
On January 23, 2024, in Miami, Florida, there will be a big event to officially name the ship. The ship is the first of its kind, and Lionel Messi, one of the greatest soccer players ever, will be there to do the honors.
Messi became the icon for Royal Caribbean after the company teamed up with Inter Miami, the Major League Soccer team, to be their main partner and official travel buddy.
Messi, who won his eighth Men’s Ballon d’Or award in October 2023, is excited about being part of the celebration for the amazing Icon of the Seas. He said, “Icon is beyond anything else for family vacations, with incredible features designed for making memories together.”
Messi joined Inter Miami as a player in July 2023 after an outstanding career with FC Barcelona in Spain and Paris Saint-Germain in France, winning four Champions Leagues and ten La Liga titles.
When Royal Caribbean announced the travel plans for the Icon of the Seas in October 2022, it became a record-breaking moment for the cruise line, with the most bookings in a single day and week ever.
The ship is super cool, with the biggest pool at sea called Royal Bay, and six amazing waterslides that break records. It’s also the first Royal Caribbean ship to use LNG and has a special waste-to-energy facility on board.
